Find every email on the same subject, in a tab of its own

5 October 2026 · searched as find all emails in a thread

A conversation that has run for months is scattered across Inbox, Sent and the archive, sometimes under a reworded subject. Find Related turns one message’s subject into a search and gives it a tab of its own, leaving the list you were reading where it was.

How to do it

  1. Right-click a message in the list and choose Find Related….
  2. A new tab opens, named after the subject, with every message whose subject has those words — Re: and Fwd: taken off first.
  3. To search beyond the folder you started in, choose All folders beside the search box, or start from All Mail.
  4. Close the tab when you are done, and you are back at the message you started from.

The search is the subject’s words, each its own s: token, so it also finds a reply whose subject was shortened or added to — and it is in the box to edit. Asking again for the same subject goes back to the tab already open.
