Answer inside the quoted email, in your own colour

5 October 2026 · searched as reply inline to email in different color

Answering point by point inside someone’s mail is the clearest reply there is — if they can tell your words from theirs. MailCode marks everything you type inside the quote with your initials and your colour, as you type.

How to do it

  1. Reply to the message, then click into the quoted mail below your reply and start typing under the point you are answering.
  2. The first key you press in a paragraph puts your initials in front — [EY] — and switches to your comment colour. Keep typing; the rest of the paragraph follows.
  3. Set the colour, the initials and bold or regular in Settings ▸ Compose ▸ Inline reply comments. Initials left empty come from your account’s name.
  4. Reading the mail first? Select a passage and click Mark beside Translate to underline the points you mean to answer.

Marks are a note to yourself — drawn on this computer only, never sent. When you reply quoting the whole message, the quote shows them, so each point can be answered where it stands. In a reply to a plain-text mail the comment carries your initials but no colour, since plain text has none.
