Reply with the original attachments — or forward without them

5 October 2026 · searched as reply with attachments

A reply drops the attachments and a forward keeps them, and most mail apps give you no other way round. Both are wrong often enough: “here it is again, signed” needs the file, and passing a thread along rarely needs eight megabytes of spreadsheets. In MailCode the other choice is one right-click away.

How to do it

  1. Open the message.
  2. Right-click Reply — or Reply All — in the reading-pane toolbar. The menu says what is at stake, 2 attachments · 7.8 MB, and offers Reply with attachments.
  3. Choose it. The reply opens with the original’s files attached and the quote below as usual. Logos in the signature and pictures in the text are not added as files.
  4. For the opposite, right-click Forward ▸ Forward without attachments: the message travels, the files stay behind.
MailCode: Right-click on Reply All: the original’s attachments, counted and weighed.

On a message with no attachments the menu says No attachments and its item is greyed out. The same right-click works on a message opened in its own window, on an .eml or .msg opened from Finder, and in the Flags view. A plain click on Reply or Forward does what it always did.
